This is my first post ever, let alone my first blog, but here goes.
I started to stutter at the age of seven. For many years, I had no idea it ran in the family. It totally controlled my life. It wasn't until I was in college, that I learned it was genetic and thought to be neurological. I was relieved , but it didn't really help until I met this great 'old' Dr. (old to me then, I was 17) whom was filling in for a prof. He pulled me aside after class. We had a great chat. Funny, I didn't stutter around him at all. He explained to me that was proof it was neurologically controlled. Whenever I became nervous or anxious, it made for system-overload, so to speak. Furthermore, allergies or food sensitivities usually caused the symptom of stuttering. SYMPTOM! It seemed to me my whole life to that point was one big symptom. He also said that most of his stuttering patients were allergic to milk proteins and all of their by-products. I immediately stopped the foods I knew to be dairy, but it took me 17 more years to realize all of the by-products. What a difference in my life. I've been reading another blog and see that others have found gluten protein to be a problem. I, too, have a sensitivity to that and inorganic beef (maybe all beef). There are foods and combos that just make me feel anxious. I cheat sometimes, but for the most part, it's easier just not to eat them!
Anyone out there want to comment or add? I'd love to hear from you.
